Join Us for a ThanksforGiving Party To Gobble About
Join Co-Chairs Bonnie O’Neill and gallery owner Timothy Tew and the ThanksforGiving Gang for a special party to kick off the holiday season and benefit Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts in Mississippi. Fill your eyes with beautiful art, listen to Mississippi tunes, enjoy delectable food and celebrate the incredible, heart-warming story of how one community is turning tragedy into opportunity.
Special guests include Cholene Espinoza, former U-2 pilot and Iraqi war correspondent and author of Through the Eye of the Storm, her amazing story of finding an unexpected spiritual home in hurricane ravaged Mississippi. Shortly after Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, Ms. Espinoza , a captain for United Airlines , rented a U-Haul truck, filled it with toilet paper, diapers and canned goods and headed to a small community in southern Mississippi that had been almost entirely wiped out by the storm. It was the first of so far thirteen trips to DeLisle and the beginning of a remarkable friendship between Espinoza and two indomitable community leaders, Reverend Rosemary Williams and Shantell Nicks, both of whom are featured in Espinoza’s book and will also be special guests at the ThanksforGiving party.
The ThanksforGiving event will be held November 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in beautiful TEW Galleries in Peachtree Hills. All proceeds from the party will go to build the Pass Christian DeLisle Community Center, a 6,000 square-foot building that will provide G.E.D. classes and computer training for adults, after-school programs for children, arts and crafts , wellness and exercise classes, senior activities, and an aquatic center where local residents can learn to swim. As the first such center in that community, it will be a focal point for the redevelopment of the decimated Gulf-coast town . It will also be a lasting tribute to the people whose courage withstood the worst storm in history and whose faith Katrina could never destroy.
Suggested donation is $50 per person which includes an autographed copy of Through the Eye of the Storm,
